A Tooth for a Car? Cool Website

No, it’s not Swapas kill.com it’s Swap a skill.com, an awesome little site where you can swap your skills for someone else’s. Simply put, it’s a bartering site for skill swapping. Most people have some sort of skill they can swap for something else, so just throw it up there and who knows, you might just get that website build for your intuitive fortune telling skills. Perhaps you need your tooth fixed and you can swap your BMW mechanic skills for a dentist’s skills.

Don’t think skills are just for the skillful, au contrair mon frair. You can also swap skillz, skills that are taken for granted. Skillz might just be simple things like helping someone translate a line of text, or other small favors anyone can do. So you just list everything you can think of just in case someone is in need of your grab bag of skills and skillz.

I have put swapaskill.com on my cool websites list because it is just so cool.

Check out swapaskill.com at http://www.swapaskill.com/

When I found out about the Mother Bear Project my hear nearly melted. This NPO provides children affected by HIV and AIDS in emerging countries (namely Africa) with knitted and crocheted hand made bears created by volunteers all over the world.

The smiles on the children’s faces is priceless. A simple gift of a bear with a tag signed by the person who created it, goes a very long way for children who’s lives are aflicted with poverty and dispaire.

Anyone can help make this project even more successful in the folling ways:

To help support and learn more about this amazing Non Profit Organization visit their website at www.motherbearproject.org. If you are already involved with this organization please let use know of your experience and what you have done, in the comment box below.

4 Cool Ways to Sell Stuff Online

If you are like millions of people who dream of having an online business, now is a great time to roll up your sleeves and get going. There are a gazillion ways to make money online but one very straight forward way is to sell stuff. Lucky for us, in this day and age, the loving internet wants us to sell stuff because why else would there be so many cool free shopping cart platforms.

There are two different type of platforms, self hosted and not self hosted. A self hosted shopping cart is software that you install and run on your own server (hosting plan). You own your content and have full control over the destiny of your site. The most advantageous thing is that you can customize it to look and function the way you want it and if you ever wanted to sell it, there would be no problem.

The absolute greatest free self hosted shopping cart platform is Zen Cart. It is robust, easy to install if your hosting platform is Cpanel and just super cool!  Web designers charge between $1,000 to $5,000 or more for what Zen Cart gives you for free!  The basic template that Zen Cart comes with is ok right out of the box but there are plenty of inexpensive Zen Cart templates available that are hot.  If you do this project yourself you can literally have an amazing shopping site for Less than $200 for URL, hosting, a cool template, merchant account (or you can start with Paypal).

Next are three non self hosted platforms that are ultra easy and get you up and running as fast as you can get your stuff loaded and they are:

  • BluJay – 100% free online market place.  Create a store, create categories, automatically cross sells for you.  The only fee you pay is the standard Paypay or Google Checkout.  I sell some videos using this platform and it works good enough for now.  I will move onto Zen Cart once I figure out my game plan.
  • Etsy - If you are crafty or want to sell craft supplies, Etsy is the way to go.  It is an online platform for crafters who want to sell their works online and a market place for people who appreciate hand made items.  Etsy has over 4 million visitors per month!  Ya wanna be there.
  • FatFreeCart - 100% free and easily integrates with a blog site, Myspace, or regular site.  You simply copy and paste some code to your page once you’ve setup the items you want to sell and use it with Paypal or Google Checkout.  This is not a market place like Etsy and Blujay, but the cool thing is that you can place the stuff you have for sale on any webpage that allows you to post script.

Not sure what to sell?  If you are good at something, perhaps create some videos on how to XYZ and sell the supplies needed for the project.

If you know of other cool free shopping cart platforms, post a response below.

bamboosero-cargo-bike

That’s right, if you want to be cool you must have a look a greener ride than a regular metal frame bike.  Bamboo bikes have been introduced to several countries in Africa and Asia where bamboo grows naturally, in a effort to help provide local economies with an inexpensive and sustainable way of getting around and riding a wave of prosperity.

Bike designer Craig Calfee of Santa Cruz, California, has spearheaded a project in Ghana where many of his bamboo bikes are made for local use and export to the U.S.   Bambooseros (bam-boo-sayros) are the bike producers who crank out the bikes at Craig’s workshops.

Why bamboo?  Bamboo is not only a renewable resource, it grows extremely fast and is super strong and durable alternative to metal.  After the bamboo is treated properly, it can withstand weather conditions most utilitarian bikes are used to.

Craig Calfee’s Bamboosero bikes are available in three styles (as of the date of this post):

  • Road Bike – $425 for the frame or $925 to $2,000 for a complete bike
  • Mountain/City Bike – $479 for the frame or $925 to $2,500 for a complete bike
  • Cargo Bike – $759 for the frame or $1,200 to $2,500

My fave is the cargo bike, I have a fascination with cargo bikes being that I am from Holland (land of bikes) and would prefer to pull my entire house with my bike.

To visit Craig Calfee’s Bamboosero Bike site go to www.bamboosero.com

Check out these videos of Craig Calfee and his Bamboosero Bike Project.
